Favorites from 2021
Starting a photography business at the end of 2019, right at beginning of a global pandemic, and then moving to a new state in 2021, has been…. a challenge. Yet, I continue to learn, grow, and meet some amazing people through my photography. I have really enjoyed EVERY session I had in 2021! Here are some of my favorite shots from this year. And they are from all over! D.C., Maryland, Tennessee, New Hampshire, California and Georgia. I love to travel, so if you love my work and photography style, don’t let distance be the reason you don’t hire me! I love the chance to get away and to do what I love!
My ALL TIME favorite image from 2021:
Hunter and Jillian in spring in Maryland. This is one of my all time favorites for several reasons. The cherry blossoms framing and backlighting them. The metaphor of the bloom of new life in Spring hints at the beautiful new life about to begin for the Norton family and the little life already growing inside. I love the serene beauty and grace of Jillian, contrasted with the tender strength of Hunter (even though it was FREEZING, you wouldn’t even know it)!

The Waterfall Family in New Hampshire.
A special place with some special people, this photo captures some things very dear to my heart. Lake Waukewan, NH is a Pickett family generational retreat that brings up loving memories of learning to waterski, BBQs, and fellowship. All my siblings and I were baptized here. To add to the magic of the lake, this photo also captures the love and exuberance of the Waterfall family (and they all look good despite my very active nephew and niece being a little bit wiggly)!

This is one of my favorites from Dr. Jannace’s graduation shoot because it captures so much of who Kalyn is - a loving, engaging mother and simultaneously a rockstar, cutting-edge scientist. She’s at the top of her field in both areas and it SHOWS!
The Bower’s Family in Columbus, GA.
Despite a long, stressful move this past summer I have been able to photograph some amazing families in Georgia. I had never been to Columbus before moving here. Scouting for new locations in an unknown place with my own kids can be overwhelming. My goal in this shoot was to find variety and a beautiful field. GOAL MET! I am so proud of this photograph because you see the interaction of this beautiful family with soft light colors in a field. Scouting new places can be hard but when you find what you’re looking for it’s such a great feeling!

I love this photograph! The smile, the composition, the JOY! From afar, I overheard that Ellie lost her tooth! I was able to capture the joy and excitement that you have when you’re in second grade and you just lost your tooth!
Harrison and Henry in Franklin, Tennessee.
These kids are the best kids to work with! They love the camera, they listen so well, and they LOVED putting their hands in their pockets. Working with kids is always an adventure, but I love this photograph because these boys truly do love each other and it shows!

2021 had many good times for us and one of them was graduating from Residency! I love this photograph because of the location, (Walter Reed) and the meaning of all the hard work it takes to become a Doctor. So proud of you, Greg!
These are only a few of my favorites from this past year. I have so many of my own children that are my all time favorite, and so many of family and friends. Thank you all to my 2021 clients this year! I am so looking forward to 2022 and sharing life with all the new and returning amazing clients! Happy New Year! Cheers!
