Scanning my Grandparent’s Wedding Photos from the 1950’s.

In this last year, I have been shifting from full time photographer to family historian. Scanning and recording so much family history- it’s has been an honor. I find myself getting to know my grandparents and family members in a different light.

My paternal grandparents are divorced. Trust in the marriage was broken. People don’t talk about grandchildren from divorce families… The pain of divorce has an everlasting impact for generations. As I scanned my Grandparent’s wedding photos I found myself dreaming of what life would be like if they stayed together. If the trust wasn’t lost. I can dream, but the reality is in front of me. My Nana has gone to Heaven. Now my Grandfather, who is now 90 years old has been with his new wife for 40 years. There is pain in that. Yet, I am so thankful that somewhere in my Grandparent’s story my Dad, Uncles and all my cousins came from a beautiful Irish and Italian young love.

My maternal grandparents have been in Heaven for many years. These two kids were both from New York. One from Brooklyn and the other from Buffalo. Somehow they met in California and soon became California kids and never left.

I deeply miss my Grandmother and often think how she was always on my team and cheering for me. When my cousins were being mean to me she saw and was always supported me.

Scanning both sides I couldn’t get over how gorgeous and handsome my grandparents were. They were such hunks and walked in such beauty. I am forever grateful I get the chance to hold onto this family history that will last a lifetime.
